The Dorado II incorporates a special high frequency filter designed to operate
within the sampling frequency range of Digital to Analogue converters. Its purpose
is to counteract the effects of mains borne noise that could modulate with the audio
sampling frequencies, and introduce possible reproduction errors.
The SEG-42 Firmware has a modified Audio Signature setting to take advantage of
the Dorado II filter. The results mainly affect the timbre and tonality of sounds such
as guitars, violins, pianos, etc. The improvements include a better definition
between strings, and clarity in the decay of sounds. Previously blurred speech could
also become more intelligible.
Bug fixes:
1. The Caiman sound signature settings saved can get deleted when the DAC is not
properly shut down or switched on, as a result of the Firmware doing an auto reset
to restore the correct operation of the DAC.
The SEG-42 stores the saved Sound Signatures in a back up location, and restores
them after an auto reset.
Please note: a hard reset will not restore the saved settings.
2. Some streaming devices cut off the signal stream in between audio tracks. The
Caiman might produce a decoding error in some cases, until it detects a valid signal
again.
The SEG-42 has a delay in Sound Signature 2 and 4 that looks for the status signal
instead of the audio signal in order to decide whether to continue to decode the
incoming data.
3. Media devices such as televisions and cable or satellite boxes cut off the signal
stream in between changing channels. The Caiman might produce a decoding error
in some cases, until it detects a valid signal again.
