Audio input signal controls
The Capella has the following controls for the input signal:
gain - Gives you control over the gain of headphones of different impedance.
damping - Allows you to select the best possible damping of the bass.
hf - Excessive noise artefacts that can cause ringing in the ears in standard
headphone amps, can be adjusted to a more comfortable level.
The Headphone Amp
This limited
edition
Beresford
Capella
headphone
amplifier is a one off addition to our line up.
It is designed to complement the 15Volt version of the
Caiman SEG. So a single 15Volt power supply can power
both the Capella and the Caiman SEG.
But the limited edition Capella is not just about matching
looks. A number of upgrades and modifications gives the headphone an output
performance that you would normally only expect to find in headphone amplifiers
costing a lot more.
Power supplies and energy efficiency
The Capella is also an extremely energy efficient headphone
amp., which has allowed us to make it compatible with
alternative energy sources. You can power the Capella from a
12Volt battery pack, or even a 12V/1W solar panel, instead of
the included mains power supply.
These simple design steps deliver a more entertaining natural and rich
analogue playback.
Output signal controls
depth - On some recordings, it is possible to focus or soften the central
image of the sound stage with the depth control. This can give a better 3D
soundstage with difficult to drive headphones.
balance - The left and right signal levels can be offset from their centre
position.
The output is a stereo RCA connection. This output can be switched
between a fixed CD level signal, or to an adjustable output suitable for
power amplifiers or active speakers.

The Sound
At 15Volts, the Beresford Caiman SEG produces a far more dynamic
sound with an increased headroom. To be able to handle that increase
and pass it on to a pair of headphones, the 15Volts version of the
Capella headphone amplifier has a re-designed output stage that can
handle the better sound from the Caiman SEG, and produce an even
better sound than before.
